About Bodi Municipal District

Bodi District, located in the northwestern part of Ghana’s Western North Region, is a relatively young administrative area with growing significance in regional governance and rural development. Officially inaugurated on June 28, 2012, through Legislative Instrument 2020, the district was carved out of the former Juaboso-Bodi District, with Bodi designated as its capital.

It occupies a land area of approximately 679 square kilometers and shares borders with Juaboso District to the north, Sefwi Wiawso Municipal to the west, Sefwi Akontombra District to the south, and Suaman District to the east.

According to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, Bodi District has a population of 65,748, comprising 33,653 males and 32,095 females. The district’s demographic structure reflects a youthful population, with a significant proportion engaged in agriculture and informal sector activities. Cocoa farming is the dominant economic activity, supported by food crop cultivation and small-scale trading. Despite its agricultural potential, the district faces challenges in value addition and market access, which have prompted calls for investment in agro-processing and rural infrastructure.

Infrastructure development remains a priority, particularly in road connectivity and health service delivery. The district’s road network is largely untarred, affecting transportation and access to essential services. In response, the assembly has initiated rehabilitation projects aimed at improving mobility and linking farming communities to market centers. The health sector has also seen renewed attention, with the Bodi District Health Directorate reviewing its mid-year performance in July 2025.

The review emphasized the need for improved maternal care, expanded health infrastructure, and the rollout of the Ghana Health Service’s Network of Practice (NOP) policy. Under this initiative, referral centers such as Amoaya and Suiano have been selected to enhance healthcare accessibility across the district.

Leadership within the district has been instrumental in driving development. The Health Directorate, has advocated for better office facilities and increased support for health workers, particularly midwives. Civil society organizations like World Vision have pledged continued collaboration to strengthen health systems and community outreach. The district’s governance model emphasizes participatory development, with traditional authorities and local stakeholders actively involved in shaping policy and monitoring progress.
