Ningo-Prampram District: A Gateway to Sustainable Growth and Opportunity

Located just 15 km east of Tema and 40 km from Ghana’s capital, Accra, Ningo- Prampram District spans 622.2 square kilometers of vibrant potential. Bordered by the Gulf of Guinea to the south—with a stunning 37-kilometer coastline—the district is a strategic hub of growth, culture, and innovation.

According to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, Ningo-Prampram is home to 204,673 residents—almost evenly split between men and women—with over 78% living in urban communities. The district’s terrain is richly varied: 60% arable farmland, 25% savannah grassland ideal for livestock, and coastal stretches teeming with tourism opportunities.

Agriculture is the heartbeat of rural life, employing nearly 90% of residents in those areas. Major crops include cassava, rice, maize, mangoes, bananas, watermelon, tomatoes, okro, and pepper. Despite bountiful harvests, the area faces post-harvest losses due to inadequate market access, limited agro-industrial presence, and poor road infrastructure. Along its coastline, fishing sustains thousands of households—though the sector, too, is ripe for modernization.

With vast tracts of arable land, a dynamic coastline, and transformative projects underway, the district stands poised to become a beacon of balanced development, where tradition and innovation move side by side.
