About  Zabzugu Municipal  District

The Zabzugu District, located in the eastern corridor of Ghana’s Northern Region, was originally part of the Zabzugu-Tatale District until its division in 2012. With Zabzugu as its capital, the district spans approximately 1,134 square kilometers and shares boundaries with Tatale Sanguli, Yendi Municipality, Nanumba North, and Soboba Districts. As of the 2021 census, it has a population of 82,846, nearly evenly split between males and females.

The Zabzugu District Assembly plays a central role in local governance and development, guided by a mission to foster unity and improve living standards through inclusive planning and service delivery. Its vision emphasizes a productive, equitable society where all residents—especially women, children, and vulnerable groups—have access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

Development efforts in the district include reshaping feeder roads, constructing schools and health facilities, drilling boreholes, and promoting local economic development. The Assembly also supports climate resilience initiatives, sanitation campaigns, and social welfare programs such as assistance for persons with disabilities and the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) scheme.

In the Zabzugu District, several impactful projects have been implemented to improve infrastructure and social services. One major initiative was the construction of a solar-powered mechanized borehole and water closet toilet facility at Zabzugu Senior High School, enhancing both sanitation and access to clean water.

Another key development was the spot improvement of the Zabzugu–Tikpralanyili feeder road, which has helped ease transportation challenges and improve connectivity for farmers and traders. The district also prioritized education by building two three-unit classroom blocks for Zabzugu SHS and supplying dual desks, teachers’ tables, and cupboards to Kalegu JHS. Additionally, a solar mechanized borehole was installed at Nakpali to support water access in that community.

With a strong background in healthcare, Tanie has served at Tantala CHPS, Yezesi Health Center, and Gor-Tanei CHPS, gaining firsthand experience in addressing critical community needs. His deep understanding of public health, coupled with his passion for development, positions him well to tackle pressing issues such as poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure deficits in the district.
