Leadership Spotlight: Mamprugu Moagduri District

District Chief Executive: Hon. Abu Adam

Hon. Abdul Rahman Abdul Aziz, leads the Mamprugu Moagduri District Assembly with a focus on agricultural transformation, rural infrastructure, and inclusive service delivery. His administration emphasizes inter-agency collaboration, youth employment, and leveraging natural resources for economic growth. Under his leadership, the district has prioritized health access, educational equity, and value addition in agriculture.

Mamprugu Moagduri District, located in the western part of Ghana’s North East Region, was carved out of West Mamprusi District in 2012. It spans approximately 2,150 square kilometers and shares boundaries with North Gonja to the west, Kumbungu to the south, Sisala East and Wa East to the northwest, and Builsa South to the north. The district capital is Yagaba, and other key communities include Tantala, Kubori, Loagri, and Yizesi. As of the 2025 projection, the population stands at 78,285, with a slightly higher female population.

The district is overwhelmingly rural, with over 99% of residents living in rural localities. Agriculture is the backbone of the economy, with over 97% of households engaged in farming. Rice, maize, groundnuts, and beans are the dominant crops, supported by the fertile lands along the White Volta. Livestock rearing is also significant, with over 150,000 animals recorded. Despite challenges in road connectivity and energy access, the district is leveraging its natural assets for development.

Four key development projects are shaping the district’s future. First, the construction of a modern rice mill in Jadima, in partnership with the World Food Programme, is underway. This facility will process 30,000 metric tonnes of rice annually and create over 2,000 jobs, especially for youth and women. Second, the distribution of dual desks across schools is improving classroom conditions and promoting inclusive education. Third, the construction of a 12-seater KVIP toilet and urinal at Tantala is enhancing sanitation and public health. Fourth, the establishment of a satellite NHIS office in Yagaba is expanding access to health insurance and reducing travel burdens for residents.

These initiatives reflect Mamprugu Moagduri’s commitment to agro-industrial growth, education, sanitation, and health equity. With continued support from stakeholders and development partners, the district is positioning itself as a rising hub for rural transformation.

Would you like this adapted for a publication or expanded with zonal council breakdowns? I can also help integrate quotes from Hon. Abu Adam or format it for a stakeholder presentation.
