About Twifo Ati Morkwa Municipally District
Twifo Ati Morkwa District: Forested Strength, Agricultural Promise, and Steady Transformation
Situated in the northwestern part of Ghana’s Central Region, Twifo Ati Morkwa District is a land of lush forests, fertile soils, and resilient communities. With Twifo Praso as its capital, the district spans approximately 1,199 square kilometers and is bordered by Upper Denkyira East, Hemang Lower Denkyira, Mpohor, Assin North, and Assin South. Originally part of the larger Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District, it was restructured in 2012 under Legislative Instrument L.I. 2023 to form its current administrative identity.
One of the district’s most impactful projects is the expansion and reshaping of inner roads in Twifo Praso and surrounding communities. These upgrades have improved mobility, reduced travel time, and enhanced access to markets and health facilities. In education, Hon. Yawson led efforts to save a collapsed school building at Morkwa Senior High School, working closely with the District Director of Education and the Member of Parliament to restore safe learning conditions. The Assembly also supported BECE candidates with motivational sessions and learning materials, reinforcing its dedication to academic excellence.
Healthcare delivery has seen notable improvements through stakeholder engagement and facility upgrades. The DCE and Assembly officials have worked with district hospital staff to address service gaps and improve patient care, while also supporting outreach programs on sanitation and disease prevention. In agriculture, the district continues to promote cocoa and oil palm cultivation, with support for smallholder farmers and initiatives to curb environmental degradation caused by illegal mining and logging.
Twifo Ati Morkwa District remains a vital contributor to the Central Region’s economy and ecological balance. With visionary leadership and a focused development strategy, it is steadily transforming its natural wealth into a foundation for inclusive progress.
