Tema West on the Rise: Delivering Impact Where It Counts
The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA), one of the ten newly created MMDAs in the Greater Accra Region, covers a land area of approximately 66.8 square kilometers, about 2.1% of the region’s total. It lies between Latitudes 5°42"00' N and 5°36"20' S, and Longitudes 0°00"30' W and 0°7"10' W, with Community 2 as its coastal district capital. Established in March 2018 by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2317, TWMA was carved from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and shares borders with Krowor, Adentan, Kpone, Ashaiman, and the Gulf of Guinea. In March 2025, Mr. Ludwig Teye Totimeh was unanimously confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive—receiving a full endorsement from all 16 assembly members. A business analyst and economist, he brings a results-driven and inclusive development vision to the Assembly. Among the impactful development projects are
● Educational Access: Completion of a 6-unit classroom block at Star Basic School, Community 5, expanding access to quality education.
● Market Sanitation: Construction of a 10-seater WC toilet facility at Texpo Market, improving hygiene conditions for vendors and patrons.
● Road Improvements: Asphalt overlays carried out in areas like Community 20, Sakumono, and Community 3 Sites A and B to address deteriorating road networks.
● Drainage Infrastructure: Construction of 0.60-meter U-drains in Community 3 Site B, Community 2 near GCB Bank, Corpus Christi JHS to Dzorwulu Junction,
and Texpo Market to Lashibi Traffic Light to enhance flood mitigation and stormwater management. In March 2025, Mr. Ludwig Teye Totimeh was unanimously confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of TWMA, becoming the first male to hold the position since the Assembly’s inception.
