Kwaku Adjei Mensah, who was confirmed as Municipal Chief Executive in April 2025 with unanimous support from all 46 assembly members. A former Member of Parliament for Techiman South (2013–2017) and past Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr. Adjei Mensah brings deep institutional knowledge and a strong public service background. His administration has pledged to tackle pressing issues such as youth drug abuse, violent crime, and infrastructure gaps. Techiman Municipal, located in the heart of Ghana’s Bono East Region, remains one of the country’s most dynamic urban centers, known for its strategic location and thriving market economy. Established under Legislative Instrument 2096, the municipality spans approximately 639 square kilometers and serves as the regional capital. With a population of 243,335 as of the 2021 census, Techiman boasts a high urban concentration, with 64.5% of residents living in urban areas.
The municipality is home to one of West Africa’s largest outdoor agricultural markets, which contributes up to 70% of its internally generated revenue. Agriculture employs 36% of the population, while the service and sales sectors—dominated by women—drive much of the local commerce. Techiman’s economic vibrancy is supported by strong infrastructure in health, education, and sanitation, with ongoing investments in boreholes, toilet facilities, and waste management systems. The municipality also shows growing digital inclusion through mobile phone ownership and internet access.
