DCE
The municipal administration, led by Hon. Pius Sampson Opoku since April 2025, has received strong backing from the Assembly. His leadership promotes inclusive governance and unity, with continued support for vulnerable groups through initiatives like the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program.
Abount Tano North Municipal District
Tano North Municipal, found in Ghana’s Ahafo Region, has Duayaw-Nkwanta as its capital. It became a standalone district in 2004 after separating from the former Tano District and was elevated to municipal status in 2017 through Legislative Instrument 2267. The municipality spans approximately 837.4 square kilometers and shares boundaries with Sunyani West, Asutifi North, Offinso North, Tano South, and Ahafo Ano North districts.
As of 2025, the estimated population is around 101,789, with a fairly equal distribution between males and females. The settlement pattern is dispersed, with notable towns like Yamfo, Bomaa, Terchire, Tanoso, and the capital Duayaw-Nkwanta. The local economy is largely agrarian, driven by crops such as cocoa, coffee, maize, cassava, cashew, and vegetables. Gold deposits have also been identified in Yamfo and Tanoso, prompting youth engagement in mining-related ventures, particularly through Newmont Ghana.
Healthcare provision in the municipality includes three hospitals, five health centres, two clinics, and ten CHPS compounds. Education services are relatively extensive, with over 120 basic schools, five senior high schools, and four health training institutions across the area. Development efforts have recently focused on improving infrastructure and services, including constructing new classroom blocks in communities such as Subonpang, Adrobaa, Terchire, and Duayaw-Nkwanta. There’s also been significant investment in water and sanitation infrastructure through the WASH Master Plan.
