About Sekyere South Municipal District
Sekyere South District: Advancing Inclusive Development Under the Leadership of Hon. Evans Amoh Twumasi”
The Sekyere South District Assembly (SSDA) stands as one of Ghana’s 254 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, and is among the 26 established within the Ashanti Region. Formed in 2006, the district has evolved through various changes in its name, boundaries, and administrative structure, mirroring Ghana’s commitment to deepening local governance and decentralization.
The Assembly’s legal foundation traces back to the return to constitutional rule in 1993, originally governed by the Local Government Act, 1993 (Act 462), which has since been revised under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936). The district's authority and operational scope are further outlined under Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2034.
In pursuit of inclusive development, the SSDA has embarked on several impactful initiatives across core sectors. Notable among these is the investment in education, highlighted by the construction of a 16-unit classroom block and a protective fence wall for the Ashanti School for the Deaf in Jamasi. Complementing this is the establishment of a 6-unit classroom block with administrative spaces and a library at Wiamoase Gyedim, and the distribution of 650 dual desks to schools throughout the district to enhance learning conditions.
Efforts to improve water access and sanitation have included the installation of mechanized boreholes in Bepoase, Wiamoase, and Agona markets, alongside the construction of a 6-seater KVIP toilet facility at Sofialine DA Primary School. The district has also expanded its electrification coverage, achieving over 94% connectivity across its communities and linking the District Police Headquarters to the national grid to bolster both security and administrative functionality.
Judicial infrastructure has not been overlooked, with the commissioning of the Wiamoase Court Complex—a project that attracted national attention with dignitaries such as the Chief Justice and Chief of Staff in attendance. This facility marks a significant step in promoting legal accessibility and justice delivery within the district.
Spearheading these initiatives is Hon. Evans Amoh Twumasi, the Municipal Chief Executive for Sekyere South. With professional roots as a former Operations Officer at Okomfo Anokye Rural Bank, Twumasi brings financial discipline and strategic oversight to district administration. He is also the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Sekyere South, recognized for his active grassroots engagement and commitment to transformative leadership. His administration emphasizes sustainable development, fiscal accountability, and citizen-driven policy implementation, positioning the district as a model of balanced progress in the Ashanti Region.
