About Sekyere East District
Empowering Communities: Development Progress and Leadership in Sekyere East District
Sekyere East District, located in the northeastern part of the Ashanti Region, was established in 1988 and restructured under Legislative Instrument 1900 in 2007. Effiduase serves as the administrative capital, with the district covering approximately 730.5 square kilometers. It shares boundaries with Sekyere Kumawu to the northeast, Sekyere South to the west, Asante Akim Central to the southeast, and Juaben Municipal to the southwest. As of the 2021 census, the district’s population stands at 74,789, with a fairly balanced gender distribution. The area is predominantly agrarian, with agriculture employing nearly 80% of the working population.
Development in Sekyere East has focused on infrastructure, education, health, and economic empowerment. The district has seen the construction and rehabilitation of classroom blocks, mechanized boreholes, and sanitation facilities in communities like Effiduase, Asokore, and Oyoko. Road upgrades have improved connectivity between farming areas and market centers, while electrification projects have expanded access to energy across rural communities. The district’s Business Resource Centre and Rural Enterprise Programmes have supported youth employment and entrepreneurship. Health initiatives include maternal care programs, HIV/AIDS prevention, and improved access to medical services through expanded facilities and staff recruitment.
At the helm of these efforts is Hon. Ibrahim Adams, the District Chief Executive. His leadership emphasizes inclusive development, transparency, and community engagement. With a background in public administration and grassroots mobilization, Hon. Adams has prioritized stakeholder collaboration, sanitation campaigns, and educational support programs. His administration has also worked to strengthen local governance structures and promote accountability in project execution.
As Sekyere East continues to build on its development momentum, the district’s leadership and strategic planning remain central to its vision of equitable growth and improved quality of life.
