Hon. Samuel Somuah, District Chief Executive - Sekyere Central District
About Sekyere Central District
Sekyere Central District, nestled in the northern reaches of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, was officially established in 2008 following its carve-out from the former Sekyere West District under Legislative Instrument 1841.
With Nsuta as its administrative capital, the district spans an impressive 1,631 square kilometers, positioning it among the larger jurisdictions in the region.
It is home to an estimated population of over 73,000 people, spread across more than 150 vibrant communities including key settlements such as Nsuta, Kwamang, Beposo, Atonsu, and Kyebi.
The economy here is dominantly agrarian, with approximately 75 percent of the inhabitants engaged in various agricultural activities. Geographically, Sekyere Central bridges forest and savannah zones, with portions of the Afram Plains offering fertile lands ideal for agro-based development. Traditional governance is upheld through the Nsuta, Beposo, and Kwamang councils, all of which play significant roles in maintaining cultural cohesion and local development.
The district has witnessed several impactful development interventions. Under the One-District One-Factory initiative, a 400-acre parcel of land has been secured at Amoamang II to host a cassava processing facility, aimed at strengthening agro-processing and job creation. Complementing this is a mechanized dam constructed at Aframso through the One-Village One-Dam initiative, designed to support irrigation farming and enhance food security. Another strategic effort is the acquisition of a 3-acre site within the Kwagyei Industrial Area for the establishment of a warehouse under the One-District One-Warehouse policy.
This is expected to significantly minimize post-harvest losses among farmers. In the health sector, the construction of a three-unit Nurses’ Quarters at the Kwamang Health Centre is set to bolster healthcare service delivery. Meanwhile, in Beposo, a new 20-seater water closet toilet facility at Ghana Muslim Mission SHS has improved sanitation infrastructure, with an Assembly Hall currently under construction to support academic and community activities.
Guiding these development efforts is Hon. Samuel Somuah, the District Chief Executive of Sekyere Central. Known for his hands-on leadership style, Hon. Somuah is deeply involved in project inspections, stakeholder engagement, and community dialogue. His administration places strong emphasis on infrastructure, sanitation, agricultural modernization, and health accessibility. He works closely with schools, healthcare centers, and traditional authorities to ensure that initiatives are both responsive and inclusive, reinforcing his commitment to advancing the district through collaborative governance.
