Background of the District
Pusiga Municipal District, located in the Upper East Region of Ghana, was carved out of the Bawku Municipality in 2012 by Legislative Instrument (LI 2145). With its administrative capital at Pusiga, the district shares borders with Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, Bawku Municipality to the west, and Garu District to the south.

Haruna Abdul-Rahim served as the Assemblyman for the Ninkogo Electoral Area,.Haruna began his public service as a volunteer teacher in 2005, and has since taught at Zoogo JHS, Ninkogo JHS, and currently Binduri Senior High School, where he chairs the Welfare Committee. His commitment to education goes beyond the classroom—he organizes free extra classes, mentors students, and balances administrative duties with community outreach.
He holds a Diploma in Basic Education from Gbewaa College of Education, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from KNUST, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Geography Education at the University of Education, Winneba. Politically, he serves as Constituency Organizer for the NDC since 2018, with a reputation for conflict mediation and grassroots mobilization.
`Development Outlook
The Assembly has already initiated the construction of a new maternity block at Pusiga-Natinga to reduce maternal and infant mortality, replacing the old, overcrowded structure. In education, over 30,000 pieces of furniture have been distributed under GETFund to eliminate schools under trees, while new classroom blocks have been constructed in Gambudugu, Sugudi, Zuobuliga, and Sanga.
To improve water access, thirty boreholes have been provided across communities through support from the Alhaji Hanan Foundation. Road infrastructure is also receiving attention, with seven kilometers of town roads rehabilitated in Widana, Pulmakom, and Pusiga, alongside plans for bridges at Dabia, Narongo, Pialoko, and Mandago. The district’s rural electrification coverage stands at 86%, with ongoing efforts to connect remaining communities to the national grid.
