Hon. Nii Boye Laryea - Okaikoi North District
About Okaikoi North District
Christian Tetteh Badger, the newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive for Okaikoi North Municipal Assembly, represents a fresh chapter in the municipality’s governance journey. Appointed on May 11, 2025, with a unanimous endorsement from all 17 Assembly Members, his leadership marks both a continuation of prior efforts and a renewed commitment to transformative development.
Badger takes over from Hon. Nii Boye Laryea with a clear sense of duty and purpose. His confirmation was not just an endorsement of credentials but a recognition of his vision for inclusive and accountable municipal administration. In his post-confirmation address, he described his appointment as “a call to duty,” pledging to lead with humility, resolve, and dedication to the wellbeing of every resident.
Under Hon. Badger’s leadership, the Okaikoi North Assembly is expected to focus on a broad array of developmental goals. His governance agenda is framed around strategic pillars that include participatory governance, education and youth employment, healthcare expansion through Mahama Care, environmental sanitation, development control, internal revenue generation, and fostering peace and social cohesion. These priorities reflect a holistic approach to municipal development, placing people and progress at the center.
Equally compelling is Hon. Badger’s approach to stakeholder engagement. Recognizing the diverse interests and contributions within the municipality, he has expressed a strong commitment to collaboration with traditional authorities, religious leaders, civil society groups, and local residents. Assembly Members are seen not merely as colleagues but as co-creators in the mission to build “a vibrant, inclusive, and progressive Okaikoi North.”
His vision goes beyond administrative efficiency—it is rooted in the belief that governance must empower communities. By championing job creation for the youth, equitable distribution of development resources, and opportunities for every child to dream without limitation, Hon. Badger is positioning Okaikoi North as a model municipality in Ghana’s decentralized governance framework.
Key projects
The Okaikoi North Municipal Assembly has undertaken several impactful projects that reflect its commitment to infrastructure renewal, social development, and environmental sustainability. Four particularly notable initiatives stand out for their scale and community relevance.
First is the drainage and road infrastructure enhancement across key corridors such as Achimota Old Overhead, Akweteyman, and the Pentecost Church stretch. These upgrades have significantly improved urban mobility, reduced flooding risks, and enhanced safety for motorists and pedestrians. The project also addressed critical hazards, including the removal of crash barriers by scrap dealers, which had posed serious threats to road users.
Second is the sanitation and environmental management campaign, which includes expanded waste collection services, climate change interventions, and public education drives. These efforts have led to cleaner neighborhoods and heightened awareness around environmental stewardship, aligning with national goals for sustainable urban living.
Third is the youth employment and social protection initiative, which integrates national programs such as the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Nation Builders’ Corps (NABCO), Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), and support for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). Through these interventions, the Assembly has provided livelihood opportunities for hundreds of residents, especially the youth and vulnerable groups.
Fourth is the education and human capital development program, which supports needy but brilliant students, facilitates Free SHS enrollment, and strengthens school feeding schemes. These efforts have boosted school attendance and retention, contributing to long-term socio-economic upliftment in the municipality.
