Mampong Municipal Assembly: Leadership Renewal and Strategic Projects Driving Northern Ashanti’s Growth”
Mampong Municipal Assembly, located in the northern part of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, was once part of the larger Sekyere West District created in 1988. Following the separation of its eastern portion to form the Sekyere Central District on 1st November 2007, the remaining area was elevated to municipal status, becoming the Mampong Municipal Assembly. Its capital town, Mampong, serves as a vibrant administrative and cultural center.
On July 17, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama nominated Yakubu Issifu as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Assembly. This came after protests by local NDC supporters demanding a Northern candidate, reflecting the community’s desire for equitable representation. Issifu's nomination aligns with constitutional provisions and the Local Governanceparty’s Act, promising to bring renewed energy to local development efforts.
He is yet to be approved by the Aseembly.
He was the party’ss NDC parliamentary candidate for the area in the 20024 election.
Over the years, the municipality has seen key development strides. The inauguration of the Mampong High Court marked a milestone in improving access to justice, extending legal services to the northern Ashanti zone. Through the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative, farmers in Mampong received support to cultivate crops like cashew, cocoa, and oil palm—boosting agricultural productivity and livelihoods.
In the education sector, the commissioning of an ICT laboratory at St. Monica’s Junior High School equipped students with vital digital skills, promoting tech-driven learning. Additionally, the Assembly’s celebration of World Environment Day showcased its commitment to sustainability, with activities like tree planting and sanitation education fostering environmental awareness among residents.
