About Kwahu West Municipal District
Kwahu West on the Move: Health, Agriculture, Infrastructure, and Social Support Drive Municipal Progress
The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly, situated in Ghana’s Eastern Region, was carved out of the larger Kwahu South District in 2004 and attained municipal status in 2007. With Nkawkaw as its administrative capital, the municipality spans approximately 427 square kilometers and serves as a vital commercial and transit hub between Accra and the northern regions.
Its strategic location, coupled with a population exceeding 145,000, positions it as a key player in regional development. The Assembly’s governance is anchored by a robust Central Administration Department, which oversees planning, logistics, and financial management to ensure efficient service delivery and sustainable growth.
Among the key projects shaping Kwahu West’s development landscape is the construction of a health center at Wisiwisi, complete with staff accommodation and ancillary facilities. This initiative aims to expand access to quality healthcare in underserved areas and is a new addition to the 2024 development plan.
In Nkawkaw, the Adom Market Lorry Park is undergoing significant upgrades, including the construction of a fence wall, drainage systems, waiting sheds, and sanitation facilities. With an investment of GH₵400,000, the project is designed to improve safety, hygiene, and organization at one of the municipality’s busiest transport terminals.
Agricultural development is also a priority, with support being extended to 20,000 farmers across the municipality. Through the provision of inputs, seedlings, and technical extension services—facilitated in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and development partners—this initiative seeks to enhance food security and boost farmer productivity.
Additionally, a shelter home for the destitute is being constructed and furnished in Nkawkaw, with GH₵500,000 allocated to provide social protection for vulnerable populations and promote inclusive development.
Together, these initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to municipal growth, blending infrastructure, social welfare, and economic empowerment under the leadership of a newly confirmed MCE committed to transformative change.
