About Kwahu South Municipal

Kwahu South Municipal: Advancing Inclusive Development Through Education, Infrastructure, and Youth Empowerment

The Kwahu South Municipal is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, forming part of the 33 municipalities and districts in the Eastern Region. With Mpraeso as its administrative capital, the municipality lies between latitude 6°30′ N and 7° N and longitude 0°30′ W and 1° W, covering a total land area of 591 square kilometers.

It shares boundaries with Kwahu East District to the north, Kwahu West Municipal to the south, Fanteakwa North District to the east, and Asante Akim South Municipal to the west. According to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, Kwahu South has a population of 80,358, comprising 38,618 males and 41,740 females.

Among the key development projects in the municipality is the construction of a three-unit classroom block at Tailorkorpe, completed in 2023. This initiative has significantly improved access to basic education for children in the area, replacing makeshift structures and enhancing the learning experience. In the health sector, a CHPS compound was established at Asuboni Rails, complete with nurses’ quarters and essential medical equipment. Operational since 2022, the facility serves over 2,000 residents and strengthens primary healthcare delivery.

Infrastructure development has also been a priority, with the rehabilitation of the Tease–Maame Krobo feeder road underway since 2021. Currently 30% complete, the project is expected to improve transportation of agricultural produce and facilitate access to market centers, boosting economic activity in farming communities. Complementing these efforts is the Youth in Agriculture Program, which promotes mango, vegetable, and snail farming across the district. Supported by the District Assembly and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the program targets over 300 young people, providing training and resources to reduce unemployment and foster agribusiness.

These initiatives reflect Kwahu South’s strategic focus on inclusive development and community empowerment, aligning with national goals for sustainable growth and improved quality of life.
