About Krachi Nchumuru Municipal  District,

Krachi Nchumuru District, located in the northwestern part of Ghana’s Oti Region, was officially established in June 2012 through Legislative Instrument 2084 after being carved out of the former Krachi West District. Its capital, Chinderi, serves as the administrative and commercial center. The district spans approximately 2,969 square kilometers and is bordered by Krachi West and Krachi East to the southeast, Sene East to the southwest, and Kpandai District to the north. As of the 2021 census, the population stands at 79,934, with a fairly balanced gender distribution across its 196 settlements.

The district’s economy is predominantly agrarian, with agriculture employing nearly 79% of the labor force. Major crops include yam, cassava, maize, rice, and groundnut, while fishing thrives along the Oti River and Volta Lake. Despite its rich natural resources, the commercial and industrial sectors remain underdeveloped, and most agricultural produce is sold unprocessed. The district’s markets—located in Borae, Banda, Boafri, Akaniem, Anyinamae, and Kaparae—serve as key revenue sources for the Assembly.

Recent development efforts have focused on four strategic projects. The construction of a bridge over the Oti River is underway to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth. A sanitation improvement initiative has been launched, including the construction of public toilets and enhanced waste management systems. The Assembly has also prioritized educational infrastructure, with new classroom blocks and furniture distributed to underserved schools. Additionally, the district is implementing its 2024–2027 Composite Budget and Medium-Term Development Plan, which outlines goals for infrastructure, health, agriculture, and revenue mobilization.
