This momentum is now matched by a renewed leadership mandate. On May 15, 2025, Hon. Samuel Adongo was unanimously confirmed as Municipal Chief Executive, receiving all 29 votes from assembly members. Formerly the 2024 parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Adongo is lauded for his inclusive and transparent leadership style.

His confirmation, endorsed by Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Awatey and key regional executives, signals a united call to intensify development efforts across sectors. Under his stewardship, New Juaben North is poised to advance its role as a cornerstone of progress—anchored not merely in physical projects, but in the collective resilience and vision of its people.

New Juaben North: Rising Momentum through Infrastructure and Inclusive Governance

In just seven years since its establishment through Legislative Instrument (LI) 2302, the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly has transitioned from a budding administrative unit into a strategic development hub in Ghana’s Eastern Region. With Effiduase as its capital and a jurisdiction spanning 106 square kilometers, the municipality serves over 93,000 residents across urban and peri-urban communities. Its geographic position—bordering Abuakwa North, New Juaben South, Yilo Krobo, and Suhum—affords it unique opportunities for inter-district collaboration and economic integration.

The assembly’s governance structure comprises 21 electoral areas and five zonal councils, guided by a vision to be a leading local government institution and a mission focused on accountable governance, resource mobilization, and service delivery.

Health care in the municipality has witnessed a historic boost through the Agenda 111 initiative, culminating in a fully functional 40-bed hospital. Equipped with maternity facilities, X-ray services, an operating theatre, and pharmacy, the hospital strengthens emergency and maternal healthcare for thousands of residents.

Building on health progress, the municipality’s water infrastructure has expanded significantly. A total of 44 boreholes—25 newly drilled—now serve critical institutions like Ghana SHS and Oyoko Methodist SHS. Solar-powered systems in Abrewa Nkwanta, Effiduase, and Oyoko underscore a forward-looking approach to sustainable water access.

Equally vital to transformation is the education sector, where strategic investments have stabilized pupil-teacher ratios at 1:24 and improved facilities across 66 basic schools. The presence of notable senior high institutions like Pope John SHS and GHANASS enhances youth development, while vocational pathways are strengthened through the Koforidua Technical Institute. Roads and mobility infrastructure have not lagged behind. With a 550-kilometer network spanning feeder and urban routes, residents benefit from enhanced connectivity, trade facilitation, and easier access to services.
