Jaman North Municipal  District

Jaman North District, situated in the Bono Region of Ghana, was officially established in 2004 under Legislative Instrument 1779.

It was carved out of the former Jaman District and has Sampa as its administrative capital. The district spans approximately 860 square kilometers and shares boundaries with Tain District to the north, Jaman South Municipal to the southwest, and Berekum Municipal to the southeast. Strategically positioned along the Ghana–Côte d’Ivoire border, it holds significant potential for cross-border trade and agricultural expansion.

The district’s terrain is undulating, with elevations ranging from 150 to 600 meters above sea level. It experiences a bimodal rainfall pattern, with major rains from April to July and minor rains between September and October. The vegetation is a mix of woodland and semi-deciduous forest, supporting crops such as cashew, yam, maize, cassava, and plantain. Jaman North is widely recognized as one of Ghana’s leading cashew-producing districts, though most of the produce is exported in raw form. The district also has mineral potential, with gold deposits around Asuokor and clay reserves in Bonakire.

Recent development projects in Jaman North reflect a strong focus on infrastructure and social services. In February 2024, the Member of Parliament, Frederick Yaw Ahenkwah, inaugurated the Kokoa Everyday Market, a 22-shop facility, along with mechanized boreholes in Kokoa, Akroforo, and Buni. These projects, funded through the MP’s Common Fund at a total cost of GHC 120,000, aim to improve access to potable water and stimulate local commerce. The Akroforo Water Project, in particular, has relieved residents who previously traveled over three kilometers to fetch water from the polluted Tain River.

The district continues to invest in education, health, and agriculture. There are over 75 schools, including eight senior high and technical institutions. Health services are provided by the Sampa Government Hospital, Fountain Care Hospital, and several health centers and chemical shops. Agricultural initiatives include cashew development programs, livestock support, and training in fish farming and post-harvest handling.
