About Hohoe Municipal District

MCE profile

Mr. Prosper Kumi, former Hohoe Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been unanimously confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Hohoe Municipality. His endorsement by all 25 Assembly Members reflects a strong mandate and widespread confidence in his leadership. In his acceptance address, Mr. Kumi pledged to lead the municipality into an era of prosperity, inclusivity, and sustainability, aligning his vision with the President’s “Reset Ghana Agenda.” He emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships, improved revenue mobilization, and citizen engagement as key pillars of his administration.

Hohoe Municipality, located in the heart of the Volta Region, was established in 1979 and attained municipal status in 2008. It shares borders with the Republic of Togo to the east, Kpando District to the west, Jasikan District to the northwest, and Ho Municipal to the south. Covering an area of 1,172 square kilometers, the municipality is home to over 167,000 residents and boasts a diverse landscape that includes the Akwapim-Togo mountain ranges and River Dayi. The area is rich in agricultural potential, with fertile lands suitable for rice, maize, cassava, and vegetable cultivation. It also features iconic tourist attractions such as Mount Afadja (Afadjato), Ghana’s highest peak, and Wli Waterfalls, the tallest in West Africa.

The Assembly is implementing 91 projects in 2025, with 67 currently ongoing. Notable among these are the expansion of Hohoe Central Market with 32 lockable stores nearing completion, the construction of 1.0km of bitumen-surfaced roads with U-drains to improve urban mobility, and the development of a 900-meter reinforced concrete storm drainage system to enhance sanitation and prevent erosion. Additionally, the municipality is supporting agriculture through the distribution of seed rice and organic fertilizer to farmers, promoting food sufficiency and economic empowerment.

Looking ahead, Mr. Kumi’s administration is prioritizing the completion of the Fodome campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), expansion of water supply systems, and renovation of health facilities to improve service delivery. His leadership style, rooted in transparency, accountability, and collaboration, seeks to engage every stakeholder—from traditional authorities and Assembly Members to civil society and youth groups. As Hohoe positions itself for metropolitan status, Mr. Kumi’s confirmation signals a renewed focus on inclusive development and civic engagement, reflecting both the aspirations of the people and a strategic roadmap for transforming the municipality into a thriving, resilient community.
