About Ho West Municipal District

Profile off MCE

Mr. Prosper Francis Dussey has been officially confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ho West District in the Volta Region, securing 36 out of 37 votes from Assembly Members. His appointment reflects strong support for his leadership and development vision, which is anchored in agriculture, tourism, and digital innovation.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Dussey pledged to harness the district’s human and natural resources to fulfill the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s 2024 social contract with the citizenry. He emphasized transparency, discipline, and inclusive governance as the foundation of his administration.

Ho West District, carved out of the former Ho District and inaugurated in 2013 under Legislative Instrument (LI) 2083, is one of the 25 districts in the Volta Region. With Dzolokpuita as its administrative capital, the district spans approximately 1,016 square kilometers and shares boundaries with Adaklu District to the south, Afadzato South to the north, Ho Municipality and the Republic of Togo to the east, and South Dayi District to the west. The district covers the same area as the Ho West Constituency and has a population of over 82,000. It is known for its mountainous terrain, fertile lands, and rich cultural heritage. Agriculture is the backbone of the local economy, with Ho West producing the largest quantity of coffee in Ghana, alongside cocoa, roots and tubers, cereals, and vegetables.

Four key development projects are being prioritized to accelerate transformation:

First, the district is intensifying agricultural support through the distribution of improved seedlings and fertilizers, particularly for coffee and cocoa farmers. Plans are underway to establish marketing channels and processing facilities to address long-standing challenges in the sector.

Second, tourism development is receiving renewed attention. Mr. Dussey is spearheading efforts to revamp and promote the district’s natural and cultural attractions, including the Avatime Hills and traditional festivals. These initiatives aim to stimulate local economies and position Ho West as a destination for both domestic and international visitors.

Third, the district is preparing to launch the “One Million Coders” program, which will equip youth with coding and AI-related skills. This initiative is part of a broader vision to transform Ho West into an ICT hub, preparing residents for the fifth industrial revolution driven by artificial intelligence and predictive technologies.

Fourth, infrastructure development is underway, including road rehabilitation in communities like Dzolo Gbogame, Saviefe Gbedome, and Kpedze. The Assembly is also expanding educational facilities, such as securing the land boundaries of Abutia Senior High Technical School, and upgrading health infrastructure through CHPS compounds and sanitation campaigns.

Mr. Dussey’s leadership marks a renewed commitment to strategic planning, community engagement, and sustainable transformation. His administration is poised to position Ho West as a model district for rural development, leveraging its agricultural strength, tourism potential, and youthful energy to drive inclusive growth.
