About Gomoa West Municipal  District

Gomoa West District: Coastal Heritage, Community Strength, and Steady Progress

Gomoa West District stands as a vibrant coastal enclave with a rich cultural legacy and a growing portfolio of development achievements. With Apam as its capital, the district spans over 514.2 square kilometers and is home to 129,512 residents, according to the 2021 census. Its strategic location—bordered by Gomoa Central, Effutu, Ekumfi, and Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam—makes it a vital link between inland communities and the coast.

One of the district’s flagship initiatives is the CASA DE ROPA factory at Gomoa Bewadze, part of the One District, One Factory program. This agro-processing facility specializes in root and tuber products, creating jobs and stimulating local agribusiness. It reflects the district’s commitment to industrial diversification and value addition.
Education infrastructure has also received a boost. A 12-unit classroom block at Gomoa Dawurampong Senior High Technical School now accommodates growing student numbers, while new KG blocks and staff offices in communities like New Ebu and Abura Dunkwa enhance early childhood education.

In health and sanitation, the Assembly has constructed CHPS compounds in Appiakrom and Debiso, and installed biogas toilets in Kantamtwem and Apam. These interventions improve access to healthcare and promote environmental hygiene, especially in fishing communities like Mumford and Dago.

Water access and community engagement have been central to Hon. Kassim’s administration. Mechanized boreholes in Gomoa Brofo and other settlements now serve thousands, while clean-up exercises and stakeholder meetings have strengthened civic participation. The district’s collaboration with the Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity and International Justice Mission has further advanced child protection and coastal resource management.

Gomoa West’s economy thrives on fishing, farming, and commerce, with Apam and Mumford serving as key hubs. The district’s cultural richness—reflected in festivals, shrines, and oral traditions—continues to attract visitors and inspire pride among residents.

As Gomoa West charts its development path, the Assembly’s motto, “Development in Peace & Unity,” resonates through every project and policy. With visionary leadership and resilient communities, the district is steadily transforming its coastal heritage into a foundation for sustainable growth.
