About Gomoa Central District

Gomoa Central District: Steering Inclusive Growth Through Grounded Leadership and Strategic Development
Gomoa Central District, with its administrative capital at Gomoa Afransi, is a steadily rising district in Ghana’s Central Region. Established in 2018 through Legislative Instrument 2339, the district was carved out of the former Gomoa East District and spans approximately 206.69 square kilometers.

It shares boundaries with Agona East, Gomoa West, Awutu Senya East, Ga South Municipalities, and Effutu Municipal. With a population exceeding 83,000, the district thrives on agriculture, trade, and small-scale manufacturing, supported by a mix of forest and savannah vegetation and a network of rivers that enhance irrigation potential.

One of the district’s flagship projects is the Agenda 111 hospital at Gomoa Afransi, which is now 80 percent complete. The facility, once operational, will significantly enhance healthcare delivery, reduce referral burdens, and improve access to specialized services for residents across the district. Hon. Asamoah has actively dispelled rumors of stalled progress, reaffirming the government’s commitment to completing the project and ensuring its full functionality.

Education infrastructure is also expanding, with new classroom blocks under construction and plans to upgrade existing facilities. These efforts aim to improve learning conditions, reduce overcrowding, and promote retention, especially in rural communities. Hon. Asamoah’s administration is working closely with school authorities and traditional leaders to ensure that educational investments are both strategic and sustainable.

In agriculture, the district is implementing the Feed Ghana initiative and partnering with organizations like Agrico Ltd and MasterCard Foundation through the HAPPY Project. These programs are designed to modernize farming practices, support youth and persons with disabilities, and reduce food imports. Farmers’ Service Centers are being established to provide training, technical support, and market access, positioning Gomoa Central as a hub for agro-industrial growth.

Water access has improved through the drilling of boreholes in underserved communities, while sanitation campaigns and waste management programs are helping to create cleaner, healthier environments. Hon. Asamoah has also launched a personal initiative to combat teenage pregnancy, encouraging education and responsible parenting through community outreach and school-based programs.

Gomoa Central District is charting a bold path toward inclusive development, driven by visionary leadership and strategic investment. With Hon. Ishmael Nana Asamoah at the helm, the district is not only meeting immediate needs but laying the foundation for long-term prosperity. The future looks promising, as stakeholders rally behind a shared vision of growth, equity, and resilience.
