Appointed in March 2025, Hon. Daniel Barichi Bukari leads the East Mamprusi Municipality with a development-focused agenda rooted in infrastructure, education, and inclusive governance. The municipality, located in the eastern part of Ghana’s North East Region, spans approximately 1,706.8 square kilometers and has Gambaga as its capital. It shares boundaries with districts in both the Upper East and Northern Regions, positioning it as a strategic hub for inter-regional connectivity and trade.

East Mamprusi is home to over 188,000 residents, with a youthful population and a rich cultural heritage anchored by the Mamprugu traditional area. The Nayiri, King of Mamprugu, resides in Nalerigu, reinforcing the municipality’s historical and cultural significance. Ethnic diversity includes Mamprusis, Bimobas, Konkombas, Talensis, Mossis, Chakosis, and Hausas, with Christianity, Islam, and traditional beliefs coexisting across communities.

Four major development projects have been completed: the expansion of the Gbintiri-Naayili road to improve mobility, the construction of a modern market in Sakogu to stimulate local commerce, the rehabilitation of educational infrastructure across several communities, and the installation of mechanized boreholes to enhance access to clean water. These initiatives align with broader goals of youth empowerment, sanitation improvement, and gender-inclusive governance.

The municipality boasts vibrant markets in Gbintiri, Nalerigu, and Langbinsi, and celebrates annual festivals such as Damba and Bugum (Fire Festival), which foster unity and cultural pride. With ongoing investments in agriculture, education, and digital infrastructure, East Mamprusi continues to position itself as a model for grassroots-driven development in northern Ghana.
