Hon. Stephen Awuni, District Chief Executive - Dormaa West Municipal District
About Dormaa West Municipal District
Dormaa West District, located in the Bono Region of Ghana, was established in 2012 under Legislative Instrument 2094, with Nkrankwanta as its administrative capital.
The district spans approximately 369 square kilometers and shares boundaries with Dormaa Central to the north, Asunafo North to the east, La Côte d’Ivoire to the west, and Bia East District to the southwest. As of the 2021 Population and Housing Census, Dormaa West had a population of 47,913, comprising 25,522 males and 22,391 females. The district is predominantly rural, with agriculture employing over 80% of the labor force. Major crops include plantain, cassava, maize, groundnuts, and cocoa, alongside poultry and livestock farming.
The district’s development strategy focuses on infrastructure, health, education, and economic empowerment. In 2024, four exceptional projects were launched: construction of an ultra-modern emergency unit at the Dormaa West District Hospital, a six-unit classroom block at Nkrankwanta Presbyterian Primary, a three-unit kindergarten block at Yaakrom Presbyterian, and a three-unit classroom block at Asuontam Primary School. These projects aim to improve healthcare delivery and expand access to quality education. The district also benefits from cross-border trade due to its proximity to La Côte d’Ivoire.
Hon. Stephen Awuni serves as the District Chief Executive. A grassroots leader with strong ties to the community, he has prioritized youth engagement, agricultural support, and infrastructure development. His leadership emphasizes transparency, stakeholder collaboration, and alignment with national poverty alleviation programs.
