About Builsa South Municipal District,

Builsa South District, situated in the western part of Ghana’s Upper East Region, was established in 2012 under Legislative Instrument 2104. Its administrative capital is Fumbisi, and it shares boundaries with Builsa North to the north, Mamprugu Moagduri to the south, West Mamprusi to the west, and Sissala East to the east. Covering approximately 1,289 square kilometers, the district has a population of 36,575, with a nearly equal distribution between males and females.

The district’s economy is largely agrarian, with over 68% of residents engaged in farming. Key crops include maize, millet, sorghum, groundnut, and cowpea, alongside livestock such as cattle, goats, and poultry. Despite its agricultural potential, the district faces challenges such as poor mechanization, limited access to farm inputs, and inadequate infrastructure in education, health, and sanitation.

To address these development gaps, the Assembly has rolled out several impactful projects. Under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project, the district received GH¢4.8 million for five major infrastructure upgrades. These include a 1.8-meter culvert at Bachonsa Nyambisa, three-unit classroom blocks at Amaachaab and Gbedema, renovation of market stores in Kanjarga, and fencing of the animal market in Fumbisi. Each classroom block will feature head teacher offices, staff common rooms, lavatories, boreholes, and furniture. These projects were selected based on community needs and are expected to be completed within six months.

The Assembly also launched a skills training initiative aimed at equipping over 400 youth with artisanal and vocational skills. This program is designed to reduce unemployment and promote inter-community cohesion, especially among vulnerable groups.

In agriculture, the Assembly is promoting climate-smart farming and rehabilitating degraded lands with woodlot trees. Farmers are being sensitized on sustainable land management and supported with extension services to improve productivity.

To improve market access and livestock management, the Assembly is constructing a fence around the Fumbisi cattle market, helping to regulate animal trade and create a more organized commercial space.

The visit aimed to assess potential contamination and prevent environmental hazards.
Hon. Musah has also been a vocal advocate for adolescent health and gender equity. She received a petition from students participating in the One Million Smiles Project, who called for clarity on the government’s Free Sanitary Pad Policy. Commending their activism, she assured them that the policy’s implementation had begun and that beneficiaries in the district would soon receive support.

Her leadership reflects a blend of grassroots engagement, youth advocacy, and strategic development planning. Through her efforts, Builsa South is steadily advancing toward inclusive growth and improved service delivery.
