A major governance milestone further solidifies Bosomtwe’s development trajectory. On May 20, 2025, Engineer Abdulla Hamidu was unanimously confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE), receiving 100% of votes from all 35 Assembly members. Formerly the 2024 parliamentary candidate for Bosomtwe, Ing. Hamidu expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the nomination and pledged his commitment to serve the chiefs, residents, and stakeholders with transparency and dedication.

His leadership vision centers on enhancing road infrastructure and transforming Lake Bosomtwe into a premier tourism destination, generating local revenue and complementing the government’s broader development goals. His confirmation ushers in a renewed sense of optimism and strategic direction for the district.

Bosomtwe: Infrastructure, Innovation, and Inclusive Leadership

Bosomtwe District, centrally located in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, spans approximately 422.5 square kilometers and encompasses about 67 settlements. Its administrative capital, Kuntanase, lies roughly 30 kilometers southeast of Kumasi. Renowned for Lake Bosomtwe—West Africa’s only meteorite lake—the district also boasts natural deposits of gold, clay, sand, and stone. With an estimated population of 165,180 as of 2021, Bosomtwe functions under Legislative Instrument (LI) 1922 and Act 936, pursuing a vision to become Ghana’s most vibrant and accountable district.

Recent infrastructure and social development initiatives have reinforced this vision. A 40-kilometer feeder road reshaping programme is underway, with a budget of GHS 250,000, aimed at improving rural mobility and agricultural productivity.

Sanitation infrastructure has also expanded, including two 12-seater WC toilet blocks and ten aqua-privy units in Brodekwano and Atafram. This GHS 945,000 investment significantly contributes to public health and the reduction of open defecation.

Street lighting and electrification efforts, supported by GHS 210,000, have delivered 350 new streetlight bulbs and extended power to newly developed areas, promoting safety and nighttime commerce. Meanwhile, the drilling and mechanization of five boreholes in Abuontem and surrounding communities—at a cost of GHS 135,000—has greatly improved access to potable water and community resilience.
