Since taking office on June 5, 2025, District Chief Executive Martin Akudugu Ariku has mobilized a wave of development that’s already transforming lives. His administrative focus, he noted, would be on collaborative governance with all stakeholders to bring peace and stability to the Kusaug Traditional Area, a critical step for economic and social development in the Upper East Region district.

 


Binduri Municipal District: Forging Progress Through Grassroots Vision


Binduri District has quickly emerged as a dynamic administrative enclave since its establishment in 2012. With Binduri town as its capital, the district spans 402 square kilometers and shares borders with Burkina Faso to the north, Bawku Municipality to the east, Bawku West to the west, and Garu and Tempane Districts to the south. According to the 2021 census, Binduri is home to 76,679 residents, slightly more than half of whom are women.

The district’s socio-economic fabric is woven primarily from agriculture, which engages over 84% of the population, and its rich cultural diversity includes Kusasi, Bimobas, Bossasi, and Moshi ethnic groups, with Kusaal serving as the lingua franca.

He’s a committed member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and has served as Constituency Chairman and Assembly Member for Sakpari-Poyamire Electoral Area.His vision continues to focus on peace-building across the Kusaug Traditional Area, youth empowerment, inclusive governance, and infrastructure renewal


Key Projects


The  assembly has extended electricity to previously underserved communities including Bazua Newtown and Aporunzua, thanks to a transformer he personally facilitated—bringing power to over 50 households.


It also spearheaded renovations of multiple school buildings, pairing improved infrastructure with the distribution of essential learning materials to remote pupils. In response to long-standing water shortages, his office commissioned six boreholes in key communities, enhancing both sanitation and daily convenience.

Most notably, the Bunbugu Bridge project has removed a significant transportation bottleneck, improving market access and economic flows across farming zones.The Assembly is anchored in decades of agricultural advocacy and community-based development.  T
