Hon. Collins Asomah, District Chief Executive, Berekum West Municipal District
About erekum West Municipal District
Berekum West District, also in the Bono Region, was carved out of the former Berekum Municipal and inaugurated on March 15, 2018 under Legislative Instrument 2337. Its capital is Jinijini, and the district covers approximately 452 square kilometers. It shares boundaries with Dormaa East to the southwest, Jaman South to the northeast, and Tain District to the northwest. The district has a population of 49,464, with a slight female majority. The climate is wet semi-equatorial, with double rainfall peaks in June and October, supporting robust agricultural activity.
Agriculture remains the backbone of the local economy, employing over 56% of the labor force. Key crops include yam, maize, cashew, cocoa, citrus, and mango. In 2024, the Assembly implemented four standout projects: construction of a three-unit classroom block with auxiliary facilities at Domfete and Nkyenkyemam, development of 40 market stalls at Jamdede, reshaping of feeder roads, and drilling of four hand-pumped boreholes. Additionally, 5,000 oil palm and 13,200 mango seedlings were distributed to farmers, and 450 desks and 20 teacher tables were supplied to schools.
Hon. Collins Asomah was confirmed as District Chief Executive in March 2025. A development-focused leader, he has pledged to operate an open-door administration and prioritize peace, unity, and inclusive governance. His agenda includes expanding vocational training, improving sanitation, and enhancing agricultural productivity through strategic partnerships and community engagement.
