Agriculture remains the foundation of the local economy, engaging over half the labor force in the cultivation of maize, cassava, plantain, cocoa, citrus, and mango. The municipality benefits from its proximity to Côte d’Ivoire, which fosters vibrant cross-border trade. Financial institutions, though present, continue working to expand access to credit for small-scale enterprises and farmers.

Education and health infrastructure are key priorities. Berekum College of Education and several senior high schools contribute to the educational landscape, while health facilities—including hospitals, health centers, CHPS compounds, and maternity homes—serve the population’s wellbeing. The Assembly oversees an extensive road network, with approximately 190 kilometers of trunk roads and over 360 kilometers of feeder roads, many of which require upgrading.

Water and sanitation systems have seen ongoing improvements through boreholes, deep wells, and piped water services in key communities.Between 2017 and 2019, the Assembly completed over 40 development projects, including classroom blocks, nurses’ quarters, boreholes, and feeder roads. These efforts reflect a firm dedication to infrastructure expansion and social welfare enhancement.
