Non. Peter Dongi is the District Chief Executive (DCE) - Banda Municipal District:
Banda Municipal District:
Banda District, located in the Bono Region of Ghana, was carved out of the Tain District and officially established on June 28, 2012 under Legislative Instrument 2092. The district’s administrative capital is Banda Ahenkro. Encompassing an approximate land area of 2,298 square kilometers, Banda shares boundaries with Bole District in the Savannah Region to the north, Tain District to the south, La Côte d’Ivoire to the west, and Kintampo South District to the east. According to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, the district has a population of 28,179 with a nearly balanced gender ratio.
The district’s economy is largely agrarian, with cashew leading as the dominant cash crop. Other important crops include yam, maize, cassava, groundnuts, and vegetables such as okro and garden eggs. Fishing is practiced in communities like Bongase, and there is notable potential for gold deposits and stone quarrying, especially near the Bui hydroelectric project. Despite impressive agricultural output, the lack of agro-processing facilities presents a challenge. However, Banda is well-positioned for investment under initiatives such as One District, One Factory. The district hosts four major market centers—Banda Ahenkro, Bongase, Kabrono, and Dorbor—which serve as trade hubs within the region.
Educational infrastructure includes one senior high school and multiple junior high and primary schools. Interest in vocational and technical education is growing steadily. Health services are delivered through CHPS compounds, local clinics, and the district hospital in Banda Ahenkro. Nonetheless, staffing and facility challenges persist, particularly in remote areas where access to potable water remains inadequate.
Recent development initiatives in Banda District reflect a targeted effort to improve livelihoods and infrastructure. There have been expansions in the cashew sector with support from agencies such as ADRA and EDAIF, improvements in fishing market infrastructure at Bongase, and environmental campaigns addressing illegal logging and bushfires. The district also holds significant tourism potential, notably with the Banda Ahenkro caves and hills, which are rich in historical and ecological value.
DCE Peter Dongi is the District Chief Executive. A seasoned educator and grassroots leader, Hon. Dongi previously served as Assembly Member for Bongase Electoral Area and Headmaster of the Bui Power Authority Junior High School. Dongi's vision for the district emphasizes support for agriculture and fisheries, environmental protection, revenue generation, and strategic stakeholder engagement.
