About Ayawaso East Assembley

Transformative Urban Development in Ayawaso East: Revitalizing Infrastructure, Education, and Healthcare

Since its establishment in 2018 under Ghana’s Local Governance Act (Act 936), the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly (AEMA) has advanced a robust development agenda across its jurisdiction—which includes Nima, Kanda, and parts of Accra New Town.

It is under the leadership of Municipal Chief Executive Abdul Ganiyu.
These interventions underscore the assembly's commitment to responsive governance and transformative impact at the local level.

In Kanda, the completion of a 600mm diameter ‘U’ drain in 2022 marked a major improvement in flood mitigation and sanitation. This project aligns with a broader flood-resilience strategy, complemented by drainage and road works under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project. These efforts target historically vulnerable communities, improving access and public health outcomes.

Economic development also remains central. The redevelopment of CDR land into a four-storey mixed-use complex—including shops, warehouses, offices, and a lorry park—is being executed through a public-private partnership model. The project is poised to invigorate local commerce, generate employment, and reshape Ayawaso East’s urban identity.

Educational investments have taken shape through the construction of a three-storey, nine-unit classroom block at Flagstaff House Basic School and the introduction of sanitation facilities at the Nima Cluster of Schools and 37 Military Basic School. Alongside these, the provision of desks and modern teaching furniture is helping foster a more inclusive, conducive learning environment.

To alleviate pressure on health facilities such as Nima and Jubilee Polyclinics, a doorstep healthcare outreach initiative has been rolled out by the assembly in collaboration with the Municipal Health Directorate. This program delivers mobile health screenings and preventive education directly to underserved communities, reinforcing access to basic care.

Together, these initiatives reflect Ayawaso East's dynamic approach to local development—integrating infrastructure, education, economic empowerment, and healthcare under a unified vision for resilient urban growth.
