About Assin South Municipal District
Assin South District: Advancing Inclusive Development Through Strategic Leadership
Assin South District is steadily emerging as a hub of inclusive development and infrastructure renewal. Under the leadership of District Chief Executive, Hon. Jonathan Birikorang, the district has embraced a pragmatic approach to governance—one that prioritizes community needs, strategic partnerships, and sustainable growth.
Key Projects
Education has received significant attention, with the construction of three-unit classroom blocks and semi-detached teachers’ accommodations in communities such as Wankoso, Assin-Kasim, Assin-Beyeden, and Assin-Abaasi. These facilities are disability-friendly and strategically located in underserved areas, helping to eliminate the practice of learning under sheds and dilapidated structures.
Healthcare delivery has also improved, thanks to the completion of Community-Based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compounds in Assin-Adubiease, Assin-Sargentkrom, and Assin-Nkubem. Each compound includes a main clinic, staff accommodation, and outpatient areas, bringing essential health services closer to residents and reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates.
Water and sanitation infrastructure has expanded with the installation of mechanized boreholes and standpipes in Nyankumasi-Ahenkro, Darmang, Andoe, and Adiembra Market. These efforts support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting access to safe drinking water and improved hygiene.
Road infrastructure has seen notable upgrades, including the reshaping of feeder roads and the construction of a 12-kilometer stretch of district roads and a footbridge at Assin-Odomase. These improvements facilitate the movement of goods and people, especially in agricultural zones, and enhance market access for farmers.
Hon. Birikorang’s leadership has also emphasized social welfare and youth empowerment. Initiatives such as sanitary pad distribution to basic schools and flood prevention campaigns reflect a hands-on approach to community engagement. His collaboration with international partners, including UNICEF and Swiss delegations, signals a growing interest in leveraging global support for local development.
Assin South’s transformation is not just infrastructural—it is deeply rooted in responsive governance and strategic vision. With Hon. Birikorang at the helm, the district is poised to deepen its development footprint, attract investment, and foster a resilient, empowered population.
