Transforming Asante Akim Central: A New Chapter in Municipal Progress
Asante Akim Central, with Konongo as its administrative capital, continues to assert its relevance in Ghana’s development landscape through targeted initiatives in infrastructure, education, health, and environmental management.
The municipality's strategic location and historical significance have made it a focal point for both political leadership and grassroots development. In recent years, the Assembly has intensified efforts to improve living conditions and promote inclusive governance.
Among the most notable strides are four key projects that reflect the Assembly’s drive for impactful change:
The Odumasi Presby School has seen the construction of a modern one-storey, six-unit classroom block. This project includes an office, store, staff common room, and library—offering students a more conducive learning environment while addressing overcrowding.
Health access has also been prioritized through the completion of a fully furnished CHPS Compound at Nsiakorum, equipped with medical essentials, a mechanized borehole, and sanitary facilities. This ensures better healthcare outreach for remote communities.
To improve institutional efficiency, staff bungalows for the Municipal Coordinating Director, Assistant Director, and Engineers were renovated in Konongo-Lowcost and Konongo-Extension. These upgrades promote staff retention and improve living conditions for key personnel.
In line with national environmental efforts, the municipality actively participated in the Greening Ghana Initiative, distributing tree seedlings to enhance sustainability and beautification across communities.
This momentum for transformation was further strengthened with the historic confirmation of Maame Sarfoah Appiah as Municipal Chief Executive.
A two-time parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asante-Akim South Constituency, her confirmation by 89 percent of Assembly Members marked a watershed moment in the municipality’s governance. She is the first woman to hold the MCE position since Ghana initiated its decentralisation policy in 1988.
The announcement by Mrs. Franca Dei Yeboah, Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, drew spontaneous celebration—particularly from women whose presence signaled broad community support for inclusive leadership. Addressing the Assembly, Maame Sarfoah Appiah expressed deep gratitude for the confidence reposed in her by the President and the Assembly Members. With humility, she pledged an inclusive administration rooted in openness, unity, and active collaboration across all sectors. Her leadership promises to be one that unites stakeholders around a shared development vision.
This combination of bold projects and historic leadership sets Asante Akim Central on a promising path, embracing growth with a focus on equity, sustainability, and people-centered governance.
