Akuapim South Delivers on Development: Water, Education, and Agriculture Take Center Stage
Aburi, Eastern Region — The Akuapim South Municipal Assembly is making visible strides in community development through a series of targeted interventions in water access, education infrastructure, and agricultural empowerment.
These projects, executed across key communities in 2024, reflect the Assembly’s commitment to improving quality of life and fostering inclusive growth.
In Attakrom-Amanfro, a mechanised borehole has brought relief to over 3,000 residents who previously struggled with water scarcity. The project, delivered in partnership with Ghana Sigmas and Mt. Enon Baptist Church (USA), has significantly improved sanitation, reduced the burden of water collection, and enhanced school attendance in the area.
Education infrastructure has also received a major boost. In October 2024, a six-unit classroom block was commissioned at Aburi-Kemp, providing a modern learning environment for pupils in one of the municipality’s most populous towns. .
.
A similar facility was inaugurated in September 2024 at Gyankama, featuring six classrooms, an office, a staff common room, a store, and improved sanitation facilities including a four-seater KVIP and a three-unit urinal. These investments are part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to enhance basic education and promote hygiene in schools.
Agriculture, the backbone of the local economy, was celebrated and strengthened through the 40th National Farmers’ Day event held at Obodan. Under the theme “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition,” the celebration included farmer education sessions in Ahwerase and extension visits to Gontein. These initiatives aimed to equip farmers with modern techniques and reinforce the municipality’s commitment to food security.
As Akuapim South continues to evolve, these four projects stand as evidence of a municipality investing in its people and laying the groundwork for sustainable development.
