About Ahafo Ano South East: District
“Advancing Ahafo Ano South East: Leadership, Infrastructure, and a Vision for Inclusive Growth”
Ahafo Ano South East District, established in 2018 through Legislative Instrument (LI 2324), is situated in the northwestern corridor of Ghana’s Ashanti Region. Its capital, Adugyama, serves as a hub for administrative and developmental activities across a land area of 545.16 square kilometers.
The district shares boundaries with Offinso North, Ahafo Ano South West, Atwima Nwabiagya North, and Tano South Municipal, and according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, it has a population of 63,468 with a nearly equal distribution between male and female residents.
Hon. Ibrahim Yamba Nelson Issaka was unanimously confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) in May 2025, earning support across political lines, particularly from members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His leadership style centers on unity, transparency, and stakeholder engagement. Among his top priorities is the establishment of a tertiary institution—either a nursing training college or a teacher training college—to enhance educational opportunities and empower the district’s youth.
Under his tenure, four key development projects have been rolled out that reflect the district’s commitment to health, education, sanitation, and tourism. In the health sector, deep boreholes have been constructed at the Ahyiresu Freboye Health Centre and Debra Taabosere Health Centre, providing clean water access to over 19,000 residents and improving sanitation.
In education, Addaikrom Kwaoso D/A Basic School and Bredi Bonkuro D/A Basic School both benefited from the provision of boreholes to promote hygiene among students, while Pokukrom Ibrahimya Islamic School received a new three-unit classroom block, complete with an office, staff room, and store, to support academic growth.
In addressing water and sanitation needs, boreholes with hand pumps were installed in the communities of Canna, Ogyambedi, and Domeabra, and a two-unit urinal was added as part of the Abesewa Market Shed Extension to enhance public hygiene. Furthermore, the district has begun identifying and developing potential tourist sites as part of a broader initiative to promote local economic activity and cultural preservation.
