About Adentan Municipal District

Transforming Adentan: Strategic Investments in Infrastructure, Livelihoods, and Urban Housing

Adentan Municipality, located approximately 10 km northeast of Accra, was established in 2008 through Legislative Instrument (LI) 1888 after being carved out of the former Tema Municipality.

It spans about 85 squarekilometres and is strategically positioned at the intersection of the Accra–Aburi–Koforidua and Accra–Dodowa trunk roads, making it a vital urban and transportation hub.

The municipality shares boundaries with Kpone-Katamanso and Ashaiman to the east, Madina/La Nkwantanang to the west and south, and Ledzokuku-Krowor to the south. It is governed by the Adentan Municipal Assembly, which includes elected representatives and government appointees, and the Municipal Chief Executive  is George Doku.

Adentan is predominantly urban, with a strong public-sector workforce and a growing real estate and service economy. Despite its urban character, small-scale agriculture still exists in areas like Amrahia, Nmai Dzorn, and Ogbojo, contributing to local food production.
