About Adansi North District

Advancing Growth and Equity: Development Progress and Leadership in Adansi North District

Adansi North District, located in the southern part of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, was established on February 17, 2004, through Legislative Instrument 1758. With Fomena as its administrative capital, the district was carved out of the former Adansi West and Adansi East Districts. It spans approximately 426.7 square kilometers and shares boundaries with Bekwai Municipal to the northeast, Amansie Central to the west, Obuasi Municipal to the southwest, and Adansi Asokwa District to the south. As of the 2021 census, the district’s population stands at 54,155, with a nearly equal distribution of males and females. The area is characterized by semi-equatorial climate, fertile soils, and a mix of forest reserves and agricultural lands.

Development in Adansi North has focused on infrastructure, agriculture, education, and health. The district has constructed and rehabilitated classroom blocks in communities like Asilevikrom, Kyeaboso, and Bodwesango, alongside teachers’ bungalows in Kusa and Dompoase. Health facilities have been expanded, including CHPS compounds at Dadwene and Kyekyewere, and the renovation of the district court building in Fomena. Road upgrades have improved connectivity, particularly along the Kumasi–Cape Coast corridor. Agricultural initiatives include the UPoCA cassava multiplication project, Cocoa Hi-Tech fertilizer distribution, and aquaculture expansion in Anhwiaso. The district also benefits from the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program and youth employment schemes like NABCO.

Leading these efforts is Hon. Charles Kofi Ogbeh, the newly confirmed District Chief Executive. Sworn into office in May 2025 with overwhelming support from the Assembly, Hon. Ogbeh brings a strong commitment to education, health, and sanitation. His leadership emphasizes collaboration with traditional authorities, civil society, and development partners to drive inclusive growth. Under his administration, the district is poised to deepen its progress through strategic planning and community engagement.

Transforming Livelihoods and Infrastructure: Development Initiatives and Leadership in Adansi South District
Adansi South District, the southernmost district in the Ashanti Region, was created on February 18, 2004, under Legislative Instrument 1752. With New Edubiase as its capital, the district covers approximately 1,328.2 square kilometers and shares borders with Obuasi Municipal and Adansi North to the north, Assin North in the Central Region to the south, and Birim South in the Eastern Region to the east. The district is entirely forested, with eight major forest reserves and a rich ecosystem that supports agriculture, eco-tourism, and small-scale mining. As of the 2021 census, the population stands at 85,200, with a slight female majority.

Development in Adansi South has accelerated through strategic investments in infrastructure, agriculture, education, and water access. The district has commissioned classroom blocks in Asamanya and Aburaso, renovated schools in Wioso and R/C Primary, and constructed public toilet facilities in underserved communities. Agricultural programs include pineapple cultivation, palm oil processing, and colocasia planting material production. The district has also benefited from the GrEEn Project, which delivered mechanized boreholes and culvert improvements in Nyamebekyere, and the PURC Pro-Poor Water Initiative, which provided safe drinking water to communities like Amudrasi and Dotom. Road upgrades and sanitation campaigns have further enhanced living conditions.

At the helm of these initiatives is Hon. Kobena Andoh,  the MCE for the area
