Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly: Driving Urban Growth through Localized Development
The Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly, one of six newly created assemblies inaugurated by the Government of Ghana on February 9, 2019, is steadily transforming the urban fabric of its jurisdiction. With its administrative office situated on Royal Castle Road in Kokomlemle, the Assembly plays a strategic role in enhancing local governance and service delivery within the Greater Accra Region.
Under the leadership of Municipal Chief Executive Archibald Coinah, the Assembly’s development blueprint focuses on responsive urban management, infrastructure improvement, and community well-being.
Strengthening Education and Infrastructure
To bridge gaps in educational access and quality, the Assembly constructed a three-storey, 18-unit classroom block, easing congestion in public schools and improving teaching and learning conditions. Additionally, an office complex developed under the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) has strengthened institutional effectiveness and staff working conditions.
Advancing Health and Social Services
The Assembly’s public health priorities include HIV screening and National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration exercises, targeting underserved communities. These are complemented by community sensitization campaigns addressing gender-based violence and social protection—laying the groundwork for safer, more inclusive neighborhoods.
Enhancing Urban Safety and Sanitation
As part of its urban modernization efforts, the Assembly launched street lighting projects across key thoroughfares and neighborhoods to reduce crime and improve night-time visibility.
Efforts in waste management and hygiene promotion—often in collaboration with sanitation service providers—are reinforcing the municipality’s push for a cleaner, more liveable environment.
Driving Economic Inclusion
Ayawaso Central is actively integrated into flagship national programs such as:
-Planting for Food and Jobs
-One District One Factory
-Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP)
These interventions foster economic resilience, youth employment, and poverty alleviation—especially among vulnerable households and informal sector workers.
Financial Planning for Impact
In the 2024 budget cycle, the Assembly earmarked more than **GHS 12 million for capital expenditure, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure, health, and environmental services. This investment reflects a strategic commitment to evidence-based planning and sustainable growth.
